Rehabilitation of ex-LTTE cadres

A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on March 03  at Temple Trees on the rehabilitation of ex-LTTE cadres review the current position of the rehabilitation of ex-LTTE combatants.

It was mentioned that only 49 ex-LTTE cadres are remaining at the Rehabilitation Centre in Poonthottam, Vavuniya.

The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of introducing livelihood programmes to ensure permanent source of income for them.

Accordingly, it was decided to setup a committee comprising officials of the Ministry of Resettlement, State Ministry of Youth Affairs, State Ministry of Child Affairs and the Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation to prepare a comprehensive livelihood programme for the ex-LTTE cadres.

Ruwan Wijewardene, State Minister of Defence, Niroshan Perera, State Minister of Youth Affairs, Secretary/ Ministry of Resettlement, Commander of the Army, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Chairman, National Youth Services Council and the Chairman, Rehabilitation Authority participated in this meeting.
