The presidential commission investigating complaints about missing persons will hand over its interim report to president Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow.

The report will contain details of the work the commission has done so far and its observations, said its chairman Maxwell Paranagama.

The commission is investigating the more than 20,000 complaints it has received.

When contacted, president of the association of families of missing persons Britto Fernando told Sri Lanka Mirror the government should immediately investigate complaints of disappearances if there is clear evidence.

It is good if there is a local mechanism for which officials are appointed, he said, adding that civil society representatives who have been on the subject can contribute their views, he said.

Justice could be ensured by appointing a commission and officials whom the Tamil people can trust, he added.
