UPFA wants all reforms together

UPFA wants all reforms together

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) at its executive meeting last evening has decided that both constitutional and electoral reforms should be presented together in Parliament.

The meeting was chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena.

The discussion was based on the 19th Amendment to the Constitution circulated by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

Objections were raised against the 62-page amendment by Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka and Rajitha Senaratne.

The President has summoned a special Cabinet meeting today to discuss matters further.

Yesterday’s UPFA meeting was attended by all allies of the alliance except Wimal Weerawansa's National Freedom Front.

Among those who attended the meeting at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) were the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Dinesh Gunawardena (Mahajana Eksath Peramuna), Vasudeva Nanayakkara (Democratic Left Front), D.E.W. Gunasekera (Communist Party) and Tissa Vitharana (Lanka Sama Samaja Party).
