Jaffna civil societies to hand over message to Modi Featured

Visiting Indian prime minister Narendra Modi is due to tour Jaffna today (14), making him the first head of state of India to pay a visit there.

To receive him, banana trees have been erected along the road from Kankesanturai to Jaffna in accordance with Tamil traditions.
According to reports, Mr. Modi will have a stay of around five hours in Jaffna, during which he will open an Indian-funded housing scheme at Valikamam for the war displaced and lay the foundation for an Indian cultural centre near the Jaffna library.

Meanwhile, civil society organizations in Jaffna are due to hand over a message to him, which will mention a political solution to the ethnic issue, Indian fishermen’s fishing in northern waters as well as resettlement issues.
