SF's call for interim order rejected

SF's call for interim order rejected Featured

Reasonable doubts are being raised whether certain groups within the government are attempting to prevent Democratic Party leader - Sarath Fonseka from regaining his parliamentarian portfolio, a party spokesman said, speaking to ’Sri Lanka Mirror’.

Doubts are raised after UNP provincial councillor Srinath Perera P.C. appeared against Fonseka and officials of the Attorney General department presented facts for several hours on behalf of MP Jayantha Ketagoda.

The Appeal Court yesterday (09) rejected the petition calling for an interim order to reinstate Fonseka as a member of parliament.

The petition was considered before Appeal Court Chairman Justice Wijith Malalgoda and Justice H.C. A. Madawala.

The bench declared that such a court order could only be given after a complete trial.

Noting that Fonseka lost his MP seat after being found guilty by the military tribunal, the petition states that as he received Presidential pardon and was acquitted from all charges, he should be reinstated as a MP.

The case is to be taken up again on May 12.
