The Colombo magistrate’s court today (06) dismissed an application of bail for Balendran Jeyakumary, who has been detained for nearly one year now, as the attorney general’s department was yet to make a written submission on the matter.
The magistrate ordered the case to be taken up again on April 10.
As the hearing was underway, a protest took place outside the court complex, demanding Jeyakumary’s release.
The protesters said it was a crime that Jeyakumary was being detained for 352 days by the TID which has been unable to frame any charges against her.
