As the government has initiated special investigations into disappearances, abductions and murders that took placed when Keppetiwalana was in charge of the Colombo area in the past, it is said that he has been removed over doubts that these investigations would be influenced.

Brigadier Keppetiwalana's name was also mentioned in the investigation pertaining to the murder of Sunday Leader Editor - Lasantha Wickremetunga.

Accordingly, Brigadier Keppetiwalana has been named as the Director (Infantry) while Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne has been reinstated as Director Operations.

Meanwhile, Major General Boniface Perera has been reinstated as Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni.
Major General Amal Karunasekara, who was recently appointed as Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni has been reinstated as Military Secretariat of the Army Headquarters.
