Taking up the plaint today (27), the court also ordered MP Jayantha Ketagoda’s lawyers to make submissions regarding Fonseka’s another request to annual his appointment.

The secretary general of parliament, the elections commissioner, the attorney general and several others are cited as respondents in this case.

Srinath Perera appears on behalf of MP Ketagoda, while Gen. Fonseka is represented by Faizer Mustafa, Sri Kantha, Upul Jayasuriya and Thrishmal Warnakulasuriya.

Gen. Fonseka notes in his petition that he has been cleared of all charges, based on which military tribunals had found him guilty after which he lost his parliamentary seat.
