The death of national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen in May 2012 was not accidental, police investigations have established.

The IGP yesterday handed over the investigation to the CID from the crime division of Narahenpita police, said police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana at a media briefing in Colombo today.

Thajudeen was found dead in his car, which had been gutted after it crashed onto a wall in Kirulapone.

The post-mortem examination has determined that considerable amounts of carbon dioxide had been in his body.

After a delay, the government analyst’s report into the death was submitted only in February 12, but it has contained no conclusion.
