Speaking yesterday at a workshop for SLFP MPs in Katunayake, he noted the central committee took a decision not to attend the rally organized by Wimal Weerawansa.
The president also criticized the party’s general secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and national organizer Susil Premajayantha for their lax remarks that anyone willing could participate in the event.
Showing to the gathering some newspaper articles attributed to party politicians, he said persons like Anura and Susil still make remarks in fear of their ex-leader.
No room for Rajapaksas
He asked the MP to make people rally round the party, not individuals.
The president noted the SLFP has no tradition of giving into outside pressure when naming candidates, and said the central committee would decide the PM candidate.
An MP who attended the workshop told ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ that the president has decided to take strong action against party politicians who attend events organized by Wimal Weerawansa.
Mr. Sirisena also assured that the Rajapaksas would not be allowed to raise their heads in the party again, added the MP.
