President didn’t curtail my powers – Ruwan Wijewardena Featured

State minister of defence Ruwan Wijewardena says that contrary to rumours that the president had issued a gazette extraordinary last week to curtail his powers, what actually had taken place was that the president had entrusted him with several subjects.

He has told BBC Sandeshaya that in the future too, he would be looking into the subject of the military.

Proper project

When asked as to whether soldiers have been relieved of road cleaning and other work outside military responsibilities, Mr. Wijewardena said a proper project was yet to be planned for them.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa

Commenting on the JVP’s complaint against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, a son of the former president, he said an investigation was already underway by the Navy commander, including the manner in which he had got enlisted.
Yoshitha has asked the president and the prime minister that he be appointed a member of the ex-president’s security detail, but a decision was yet to be taken, he said.
