‘Will go to court if port city is not abandoned’

The National Movement for a Just Society says that it will go to the Supreme Court and seek the annulment of the MoU signed between the governments of Sri Lanka and China for the construction of the Colombo port city, if the conditions contained in it that adversely affect Sri Lanka’s sovereignty are not removed.

Spokesman of the movement, lawyer Ravi Jayawardena said it was a violation of the constitution if a reclaimed land in the Sri Lankan sea area functions as a separate country.

If that happens, Sri Lankans will have to obtain visa to visit that particular plot of land, he said, noting that it would negate the unitary status of the country, which is also in danger of becoming a colony of China.
