Prof. Wijesinha has said he will resign if Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe does not respond as to why he was not given the Cabinet portfolio.

The Minister has added that Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, Kabir Hashim was interfering with his ministry without informing him and it was therefore impossible for him to carry out his duties.

Prof. Wijesinha has already handed a letter explaining the current situation to President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Minister has observed that he had informed both President and Prime Minister of his decision and reasons to resign from the government.
