A letter sent by Presidential Secretary P.B. Abeykoon to all ministry secretaries of a decision reached by the Cabinet headed by President Maithripala Sirisena has confirmed that former ministers, deputy ministers and MPs will be given positions, vehicles and fuel.

These official vehicles will be provided to former ministers, deputy ministers and MPs who wish to help monitor the implementation of the government’s 100 day programme.

Accordingly, a former minister will be given two official vehicles while a former deputy minister will be allocated one official vehicle.

Fuel and drivers will be provided to these vehicles from the ministry that the relevant former minister or deputy minister will be monitoring.

The Presidential Secretary has also noted that if any person is using a vehicle assigned to them by the former Economic Development Ministry, the respective individuals would have to consider such a vehicle as one assigned to them by the government.

According to the Presidential Secretary’s letter, a monitoring MP will be provided with the same quote of fuel that is currently provided to a deputy minister. Monitoring MPs are to be appointed to the Media and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
