Sri Lanka will confront New Zealand in the opening match of the 2015 World Cup in Christchurch tomorrow (February 14) commencing at 3.30 am Sri Lanka time.

Tickets for the match have been sold out but there is also the possibility of rain preventing a full match.

Weather experts have predicted rain on the day of the match which is not good news for the teams.

Should the match not be played both teams with share the four match points.

The Hegley Oval at Christchurch can accommodate some 40,000 spectators.

The venue has hosted just three matches in the past.

One of the matches played was between Sri Lanka and New Zealand which the home team won by three wickets.

Mahela Jayawardena scored a century in the match.
