No Basil for General elections

No Basil for General elections

Former minister Basil Rajapaksa has informed several of his affiliates that he will not contest the forthcoming General election and has no intention of returning to Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, speaking to the 'Divaina' newspaper, Chief Opposition Whip, W.D.J. Seneviratne has emphasised that former minister of Economic Development - Basil Rajapaksa would not be contacted at all for the forthcoming General election.

Noting that Basil was one reason behind the former government's defeat at the recent election, Seneviratne has added that Mahinda Rajapaksa also lost the votes of Christian, Catholic and Muslim masses due to the conduct of certain Buddhist monk organisations.

Basil conspired :

Meanwhile, speaking to a newspaper, leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) - Wimal Weerawansa has stated that Basil Rajapaksa acted in such a manner in order to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Noting that Basil had conspired with international forces to ensure Mahinda's defeat, Weerawansa has added that Mahinda Rajapaksa would have won if not for Basil.
