Police have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen whose charred body was found in his car at Narahenpita more than two years ago.

Police say they have re-opened the case following a complaint made implicating Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of the former President, in his death.

According to Police sources, Thajudeen's death was not fully investigated after it transpired that a powerful political hand was behind the mystery.

A top source in the Police said the complaint states that both Thajudeen and Yoshitha had a serious personal rift over a girl.
