Incumbent Badminton Association president Suraj Dandeniya is likely to have his nomination papers to contest a second term rejected by the sport's governing body.

Under the Sports Law all sports controlling bodies must hold their annual election of office bearers before March 31 and the Badminton Association is yet to decide on a date.

Dandeniya's nomination could be rejected on the grounds that the Badminton Association's Constitution was revised following an amendment to the Sports Law in 2013.

Under the amendment to the Sports Law an office bearer cannot go on for more than two years and Dandeniya has completed a two-year term.

He will be able to contest for a second term only if the Sports Minister with powers vested in him under the Sports Law grants him permission to seek a second stint.

Dandeniya and former badminton chief Prof Ranjith de Silva handed over their nominations to contest the top post of president in the Badminton Association.
