The United States of America is ready to submit another proposal to the United Nations Human Rights Council citing Sri Lanka as the respondent.
It is set to be presented at the Council's session in Geneva in March.
The proposal is said to be an extension of what was submitted in 2012 and 2013.
The US State Department has said that it wants to make certain that a civil conflict will not arise once again and hence the reason for pressing ahead with the new proposal.
Meanwhile the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Bishwal is expected in Sri Lanka today (January 31) to finalise more details of the proposal.
Bishwal is scheduled to meet high ranking government officials in Colombo and then proceed to Jaffna for further discussions
She will then proceed to Britain on February 3.
