He was speaking while at the Supreme Court premises, Hulftsdorp before CJ 43 Shirani Bandaranayake arrived at the premises and was given a warm welcome as shown below.

Weliamuna said that the President and the Prime minister has informed Mohan Peiris that his appointment by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was illegal as the impeachment of Ms. Bandaranayake was illegal.

They have urged Peiris to resign to ensure an independent judiciary, Weliamuna has further said.

Meanwhile, Justice K. Sripavan, the most senior judge of the SC, is tipped to be the next Chief Justice.
