Attorney Wijeratne Kodippily who identified himself as Chief Justice Mohan Peiris’ media spokesman has told media that Peiris would continue to function as the CJ despite the statements made by the BASL.
The BASL has called for the CJ’s resignation on the grounds that by his pre-dawn presence at Temple Trees he had failed to maintain his impartiality decorum as required by the Constitution.
Meanwhile, the Judiciary Service Association of Sri Lanka has stated that judges should perform their duty without showing any obligations towards the politicians and the Executive.
A notice with regard to this statement was issued with the signature of Association's Secretary - District Judge Ranga Dissanayake, following an executive committee meeting on Jan. 24.
The Association has expressed their concern over the CJ's pre-dawn presence at Temple Trees on Jan. 09.
Meanwhile, the 'LankaENews' website has reported that the CJ has requested for an overseas diplomatic posting in order to resign from his post.
