As many as 43 dogs imported from foreign countries were kept at former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's official residence at Temple Trees.

In addition some 23 exotic birds were also kept at Temple Trees.

It is also reported that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa had kept a shark at his residence that was taken care of by navy personnel along with two baby elephants said to be worth over Rs.10 million each.

Following the toppling of the Rajapaksa regime the two baby elephants were handed over to the army camp in Panagoda while the shark was gifted to a businessman in Mount Lavinia.
