President Maithripala Sirisena, who is also the new leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, is said to have made his stand clear following opinions and views by members of the party with regard to the General Election expected in three months time.
It had also been agreed and acknowledged during Maithripala Sirisena's nomination as the Common Opposition Presidential candidate by the Pivithuru Hetak Orgasation headed by Ven. Athureliya Rathana Thera that he will not be involved in the General Election.
As a result former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunga will take the lead role in electioneering activities of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
