UNP and SLFP to ride on Swan at General Election

The United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) are currently discussing the possibility of contesting the General Election under the Common Opposition symbol of the Swan.

Already President Maithripala Sirisena is said to be in favour of the two major parties in Sri Lanka coming together for the sake of national interests and people's welfare.

Maithripala is of the view that both the UNP and SLFP had combined effectively to win the Presidential election and it would be heartbreaking for the people if the two parties were to go their separate ways at the General Election which is due after the 100-day program.
