34 want Thilina to be Central Province chief minister

The Central Provincial Council which is administered by the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is likely to fall into the hands of the Opposition United National Party (UNP).

As such as many as 34 Members of the Council have signed and submitted a petition calling on Thilina Bandara Tennekoon to be its chief minister.

The governor of the Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa has said that a decision will be taken on Friday (January 16).

Some 31 Members of the North Central Province have also signed a petition pledging their support for the UNP in the Council.
