Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has agreed to handover the chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to his successor President Maithripala Sirisena if the latter agrees to prevent his three sons from being harrassed unneccessarily and to give Namal Rajapaksa nominations under the UPFA ticket at the next General election.

The former President has made this proposal through a senior SLFPer.

It is said that the President has met with Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa at the official residence of the Speaker last night. There, Chamal has reportedly elaborated on the harassements faced by the Rajapaksas.

MR - Maithri to meet

President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa are to meet today (15) at the President's residence in Wijerama Road, political sources say.

The prevailing SLFP crisis is expected to be taken up during talks, reports add.

Also, a consensus with regard to the chairmanship of the SLFP is expected to be reached, reports further say.
