SLRC, ITN violates election laws

SLRC, ITN violates election laws Featured

As Sri Lanka begins voting in the country's seventh Presidential election today (08), state owned television channels - Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and Independent Television Network (ITN) have been blatantly violating election regulations by broadcasting programmes partial to the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The ITN had broadcast a programme on military operations in the North from 9.30pm - 10.00pm last night which was partial to President Rajapaksa and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had complained to the Elections Commissioner on this regard.

Noting that is was a blatant violation of election regulations, the JVP has added that although the elections chief had yesterday permitted police to use maximum power to stop any forceful act at polling stations, the ITN was violating election regulations in a worse manner.
