These organisations and movements include the official paper of the Catholic church - 'Gnanartha Pradeepaya' and the 'Kithu Handa' (Voice of the Catholics) - the lay organisation representing the Catholic church.
The proposals were published on page 11 of the latest issue of 'Gnanartha Pradeepaya'.
The publication had openly invited Catholic masses to send in their ideas and suggestions several weeks prior to the formulation of the proposals.
Taking note of public suggestions they received, a panel of professionals and Catholic priests have finalised the proposals, chiefly focusing on political and legal reforms required to curb the corruption of the government.
The proposals call for strict measures on alcohol, drugs and gambling including casinos as well as on corruption and waste of resources.
The proposals further call to stop agriculture using poisonous chemicals, substandard and poison infused food items and illegal deforestation.
They also call for a proper mechanism to safeguard sites of religious and archaeological value, to pass the Bill on right to information and to put a stop to media suppression.
