The injured sergeant Chandralal Samarawickrama is receiving treatment at Kilinochchi Hospital in stable condition, hospital sources say.

A senior police official told Sri Lanka Mirror that a police team was sent to inquire following information that a drunken man was disrupting vehicular traffic in front of Kilinochchi Hospital.

When he was captured, people in the vicinity surrounded the police and attacked one of them with a broken bottle.

They got the drunken man freed, and then burnt tyres on the road, said the official.

Meanwhile, a Colombo bound bus from Vavuniya came under a stone attack at Mankulam last night.

There were no injuries or damage.
