Sri Lanka's official Trading arm posts a record revenue

Sri Lanka's official supplier to the state sector, State Trading Corporation (STC), despite stiff competition from private sector giants in the market, has increased its revenues five times over the last five years surpassing Rs. 3 billion last year, Minister of Commerce and Industries Rishad Bathiudeen said.

Despite stiff competition from private sector Trading institutions in the country, STC has increased its revenues five times over the last five years and its sales for the year recorded a huge Rs. 3000 Million during the first quarter 2016,he pointed.

As a result of STC’s ability to supply a diverse range of products at competitive rates, this year (2016) too STC continued with its increasing turnover trend reporting more than 20% increase, he disclosed.

The STC Equity also jumped from Rs 100 Mn to 700 Mn over the last few years.

Minister Bathiudeen made this disclosure when he opened the STC showroom in Sainthamaruthu in the Ampara District recently to serve the demanding consumers of East.

This was STC’s eighth regional showroom and first showroom in Eastern province.”

STC has regional showrooms in Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Matara, Narahenpita, Mt.Lavinia, Kandy, and Kurunegala and its present product portfolio exceeds 5000 product items.

It distributes some FMCG items and home appliances while equally selling non-FMCGs such as machineries for agriculture and construction sectors and chemicals for domestic industry sector.

STC also sells specialised products such as lubricants, and even interior design products.
