The CoPE committee final report with regard to the Treasury bond issue is expected to be released on October 25.
The CoPE committee UNP members have been arguing over the past two days that there has not been any scam with regard to the Treasury bond issue. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s stand on the matter has also been the same.
However, the SLFP and Joint Opposition MP’s have opposed the stand of the UNP members citing proof to support their stand.
The CoPE committee Chairman JVP MP, Sunil Handunnetti and his party has maintained throughout that there has been huge financial fraud that had taken place in the Treasury bond issue.
Two CoPE reports?
It is said that due to this opposing stands of the two factions within the CoPE committee a major dispute has arisen between the two parties and they are unable to come to an agreement in order to issue a final report with regard to the Treasury bond scam.
The UNP members have expressed their objections to the draft report forwarded by the CoPE Chairman.
Therefore, political analysts have indicated that under these circumstances, if the two parties are unable to resolve their differences and come up with a single report, there is a possibility that the two factions may eventually have to issue two opposing reports regarding the Treasury bond matter.
