The Public Utilities Commission is to introduce a compensation method for electricity consumers.

Other than natural disaster situations, consumers can seek damages for sudden power failures, delays in obtaining a new connection and in meter reading as well as payments.

They also can claim compensation due to delays in installing electricity posts and in getting an estimate for a new connection.

Director general of the commission Damitha Kumarasinghe said this method would be in place fully within the next three years.

The commission will appear on behalf of consumers who fail to get redress from the relevant institutions, he said.

Accordingly, the CEB and LECO will have to improve their consumer services.
