A final decision is to be taken once prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe returns from his foreign tour, a senior anti-corruption lawyer told Sri Lanka Mirror.

The DG has told her friends that she would withdraw her resignation if the president asked her to do so.

The PM has strongly objected to her decision to resign.

However, Citizen’s Power convener Gamini Viyangoda sees it as a good reply to the president’s remark that was critical of the activities of the commission.

It is the most serious black mark in the two year old government of good governance, he has told BBC Sandeshaya.

Civil organizations collective convener Saman Ratnapriya said the president should withdraw his remark that has left the Bribery Commission, CID and the FCID ineffective, in doubt and suspicion.

The president should dispel local and international pressure by deed that he still stood for the political objectives that brought him to power, he told the media in Colombo.

Ratnapriya went onto say the president needed to take a decision with regard to persons at the presidential secretariat who tried to sabotage political reconciliation.

However, SLFP’s minister Dilan Perera told journalists in Colombo that the commission DG had admitted she was in the wrong by resigning, noting the president had not directly pointed the finger at her.
