Chandrika to cut short her England visit Featured

Ex-president Chandrika Kumaratunga is to cut short her private visit to England and return home tomorrow (18) in view of the prevailing crisis in the government.

She is due to meet with president Maithripala Sirisena and prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for talks.

Since both leaders are presently overseas, Kumaratunga is expected to have discussions first with top leaders of the UNP and the SLFP, reliable sources told Sri Lanka Mirror.

SLFP general secretary Duminda Dissanayake’s Colombo home is the venue for one such a meeting tomorrow.

Also to be discussed there are the COPE report into the treasury bond issue and the budget for next year.

Within this week, Kumaratunga is due meet UNP chairman Malik Samarawickrama as well.

She will formulate a common agenda acceptable to all in order to take the government forward, after the crisis that was triggered by president Sirisena’s remarks criticizing anti-corruption institutions.
