The Provincial Councillor, who had handed himself over to the Gokarella police earlier today, faces five charges including allegedly assaulting a group of 'Aluth Parapura' artistes in Kurunegala.

Budding actress Samanalee Fonseka and Musician Lakshman Wijesekara were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Government Information Department states that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has called for a report on the alleged assault and had said that stern action would be taken against the offenders.
