She has taken the decision in protest against a remark by president Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (12) that he would have to take firm decisions if the commission acted according to political agendas.
Wickremasinghe, who is presently in Malaysia on an official visit, is to tender her resignation to the president soon after her return.
The commission’s activities have been going on at a slow pace, but she has not been accused up to now that she was acting under political pressure.
She has told her friends that investigations could not be conducted or the law enforced by categorizing people as former ministry secretaries, war heroes etc.
