Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has given instructions that the new constitution be formulated in accordance with aspirations of the public, and that nothing should be included that has to be endorsed by referendum, minister Patali Champika Ranawaka informed chief prelates on October 10.

Calling on Malwatte Chapter Mahanayake Most Ven. Tibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera, he said the place already given to Buddhism, national anthem and the nation flag as well as other religions would definitely continue under the new constitution.

Certain sections were making false allegations, Ranawaka said, adding that the new constitution would be adopted with approval by all 225 members of parliament.

After calling on Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayake Most Ven. Warakagoda Gnanaratana Thera, the minister also met with Most Ven. Napana Pemasiri Thera of Rammana Maha Nikaya.

Several Buddhist monks, deputy minister Karunaratne Paranawithana, western provincial councilors Nishantha Warnasinghe and Thushara Swarnatilake too, attended the meetings.
