The northern land was won by the three armed forces, and in the name of justice, they should own the land they have won, says MP Weerakumara Dissanayake.
He made the remark while participating in the parliamentary debate yesterday (06) on amendments to the land acquisition act.
The MP alleged only the persons opposed to the armed forces were demanding the removal of military camps.
Other provinces in the country too, have military camps, but some think they do exist only in the north, he said.
Dissanayake is the deputy chairman of Wimal Weerawansa’s NFF.
Vasu's stance
Meanwhile, joint opposition MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara said at the debate that the northern people should be given the land to maintain the status quo that had existed before the war.
Only that will pave the way for the path of reconciliation, he said.
Nanayakkara went onto say that if foreigners were allowed to own land, Sri Lankans would soon become aliens in their own country.
Therefore, laws that had governed land-owning by foreigners should be in force again, and the government had a responsibility to provide land to all the landless citizens, he added.
