Lasantha was shot with a bolt gun? Featured

Investigators believe a bolt gun had been used to shoot ‘The Sunday Leader’ editor Lasantha Wickrematunge.

The nature of the injury on his head and the observations by the surgeon who performed surgery on him support that belief.

His body has been exhumed for a fresh investigation in order to establish that.

A bolt gun is a sort of device used by slaughter-men to kill animals by firing a retractable bolt.

Wickrematunge was murdered near Attidiya primary school on 08 January 2009 by armed motorcyclists who had blocked his vehicle.

They had broken the window before shooting him through the head, investigators believe.

The military had been using several such weapons that had been imported during the war.

JMO at Kalubowila Hospital Sunil Kumara said in his report the death was due to gunfire, but the surgeon’s report and the government analyst’s report do not mention gunshot wounds.

On permission given by the Mt. Lavinia magistrate’s court, Wickrematunge’s body was exhumed.

The remains are being examined at the Colombo JMO’s office by a team of doctors led by JMO Ajith Tennakoon, and a report is expected in a month’s time, ‘Ravaya’ reports.
