Party MP M.A. Sumanthiran has told BBC Sandeshaya that they had pointed out to the TPC that was not suitable to hold the ‘Eluga Thamil’ (rise up Tamils) event.
However, their advice was disregarded and the protest held, he said, stressing that their party had nothing to do with it.
People of the south will have a wrong notion about the TNA as a result, he warned.
A constitution acceptable to the Tamil and other communities will be possible through the constitutional council, which is representative of all parties, he added.
To win Tamils’ rights
However, Vigneswaran told Sinhala journalists in Jaffna that the Sinhala Buddhists should not misinterpret the campaign that was meant to win rights of the Tamils.
Its aim was to place before the Sinhalese the Tamils’ viewpoint that has already been made known to the government, he said.
The campaign does not intend to create a situation of terror in the country in order to fulfill its objectives, he said.
Expressing his comments, minister Mano Ganeshan said the need of the time was not ‘Eluga Thamil’, but Eluga Ilangai’ (rise up Sri Lankans).
