Not development but showmanship

Not development but showmanship Featured

One of the country's foremost film directors Udayakantha Warnakulasuriya has charged that what is taking place in Sri Lanka is not development but showmanship.
He made the remarks in an interview with a weekly newspaper.

"What we see taking place today is a farce under cover of development. The best examples are the Noraichcholai Electricity Scheme, the Mattala Air Port, Hambantota Port, Nelumpokuna theatre and the Ranminithanne Tele Village are classic examples. After the end of the war only a few and selected set of people have benefited. All around we see the proliferation of drugs and Ethenol and thugs running the show that benefits from the economy that is sustained by these political elements and buddies in this field", said Warnakulasuriya.
