Coal tender to blacklisted company! Featured

A top official of the power and energy ministry is reportedly trying to handover the supply of coal to Norochcholai power plant to a blacklisted supplier.

Lanka Coal Company (Pvt.) Ltd., established under the Companies Act no. 07 of 2007, has several suppliers.

The contracts are given upon a calling of tenders among the registered suppliers.

Liberty Commodities was registered to supply coal, but was blacklisted following an irregularity that resulted in a loss of around two million dollars to the state during the previous regime.

Attempts by the the top ministry official to prevent the blacklisting failed.

In the meantime, a Hong Kong based company by the name SIMEC Group Ltd. applied for registration with Lanka Coal Company.

The same official is influencing the swift registration of the HK company.

It has now come to light that the blacklisted Liberty Commodities' local agent Anuradha Delgoda is also the CEO of SIMEC Group.
