According to the forged birth certificate, he has made himself older than his elder brother Sarath Weerawansa. CID investigations revealed that in many of the documents he had used, his date of birth is stated as 07 March 1965. This is the date of birth indicated in his Face Book account as well. However, his older brother Sarath Weerawansa has indicated his date of birth on FB as 16 August 1963.

Sarath Weerawansa was Wimal’s Private Secretary during his tenure as the Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities.

According to the fake birth certificate used by Wimal Weerawansa his birth year is prior to 1963. Accordingly, this has made his older brother Sarath Weerawansa a few years younger than him.

Meanwhile, Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa too had used two different dates of birth to obtain passports for travel.

According to passport No. N 284124 her date of birth is on February 01, 1967, while the NIC No. is stated as 675320233 v.

In her second passport bearing No.3642817, her date of birth is stated as February 03, 1971 while the NIC No. is 715344696 v. In addition the FCID said that the names being used had also been changed.
