State minister Range Bandara, now a chief inspector

The cabinet has given approval for ex-policeman, state minister Palitha Range Bandara, to be promoted to the rank of chief inspector.

He has appealed to a committee dealing with appeals of political victimization that he had been politically-victimized when he was in the police service.

His appeal requested that he be promoted an assistant superintendent of police and be reimbursed Rs. 1.8 million he had to spend as legal fees to challenge the fabricated charges against him.

The committee has recommended that he be reinstated in the police service from 24 August 2000, and promoted to the CI rank on the 27th of the same month and sent him on retirement.

He will not be entitled to salary arrears or allowances in lieu of his new rank.

Range Bandara last served as the OIC of Wellawa police, after which he left the service and entered politics as the UNP organizer for Anamaduwa.
