TID accused in court of violating guidelines

TID accused in court of violating guidelines Featured

A lawyer has filed a petition in the Supreme Court accusing the police Terrorism Investigation Division of violating guidelines issued by the president and the Human Rights Commission.

Petitioner Lakshan Dias says he has been denied the opportunity to meet his client, Aiyaturai Mohanadas, who has been kept at the TID for nearly one month now.

This denial gives rise to suspicion as to whether the TID is part of a different country, Dias said, adding the IGP was to be blamed entirely.

The petitioner seeks an order from the SC that his fundamental rights have been violated due to the conduct of the TID.

The respondents cited are the IGP and the director of the TID, BBC Sandeshaya reports.
