Welgama’s Mathugama conspiracy

Welgama’s Mathugama conspiracy Featured

It was the result of a long-term conspiracy that ‘Divaina’ owner Nimal Welgama had sent editor of the daily newspaper Narada Nissanka on retirement on the day he completed 55 years of age, sources say.

Distribution manager Lal Liyanage had paved the way for that by providing false information that the sale of the newspaper was going down by the day.

Lal’s intention is reportedly to get his brother Wasantha Liyanage appointed as new editor of the newspaper.

The Liyanage brothers are from Mathugama and Welgama is said to be partial towards those who hail from that particular area, a top official of the newspaper told Sri Lanka Mirror.

Jayantha Chandrasiri, who was acting as the editor when Narada was kept as the editor only to the name, has suffered the same fate that of the latter.

Wasantha, promoted news editor some time before Narada was sent on retirement, is now the acting editor of ‘Divaina’, while Jayantha has been confined to a room, the sources add.
