Well wishers from two countries have given financial support for ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa to buy an elevator for the luxurious official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07, according to reports reaching 'Sri Lanka Mirror'.

After succeeding Rajapaksa as the President, Maithripala Sirisena lived at that place for more than six months.

Thereafter, it was given to Rajapaksa after a full refurbishment at a cost of Rs. 40 million.

However, Rajapaksa has told his friends during a recent visit to Japan the government was yet to respond to a request by him to fix an elevator for his official residence.

He discussed this during his Korea tour as well.

His friends have given him money to buy an elevator.

Rajapaksa has received money enough to buy two elevators.

He cannot climb the stairs to his bedroom in the upper floor as he is suffering from a knee trouble.
