The CID has informed courts that the vehicle of slain ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen had not been examined by an inspector of the Motor Traffic Department.

The vehicle ordinance makes it compulsory that every vehicle involved in a fatal accident is examined by a MTD inspector.

Thajudeen’s is the only case among nearly 3,000 fatal vehicle accidents that had taken place in the country from 2012 May to date, in which no MTD inspector had been called in.

Police investigating the incident on 17 May 2012 determined Thajudeen had died in a vehicle accident, but the CID has later revealed that he had been murdered.

The then traffic OIC of Narahenpita police had been summoned to the CID for questioning in this regard.

That officer had admitted making false entries at the instigation of his superiors.
