Transport Ministry has forwarded a proposal seeking a policy decision of the cabinet to discourage the importation of petrol three wheeled tuk- tuks and promote eco–friendly electrically or solar power driven three wheelers in future.

The aim is to control air pollution in Colombo and suburban areas.

The ministry has been directed to appoint a team of experts to prepare a technical specification for eco friendly three wheelers in order to change existing legislation to implement this proposal.
