Cabinet approves fighter jet purchase

A proposal to purchase multirole fighter jets for the Sri Lanka Air Force had been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

He was speaking at today’s (10) cabinet briefing.

The proposal was made by by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of Defence.

“The fighter aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) have been ageing and it is required to update them,” Minister Rajitha said.
